I recently met an amazing group of people at an edm concert in Boston and became fast friends with them, August 18th I had to say goodbye to one of them. It was a sad day saying goodbye to Luke who, although I have only had the pleasure of knowing him for 3 months, has become a great friend. Over that time he has become one of the most amazing and reliable friends I have ever had, I can't thank him enough for being my friend and as he always says "It's not the time that we spend apart, but the time we will spend together in the future." I know we will remain good friends and I will visit him in the future but I wanted to give him something to remember me by and to show how much I appreciate the good times we've had.

Luke's animal spirit or mascot is a lion, so I created a painting of a rave lion for him. I used this opportunity to experiment with some new materials I had been very excited to work with. I had purchased glow in the dark spray paint and black light paint and since Luke is an electrician and lighting specialist it was the perfect fit. I spray painted the entire background of the painting glow in the dark and painted the rave lion on top. I used the black light paint to add highlights to the lion that weren't white but would still light up with black light, so that there are two completely different paintings depending on the lighting.

Being interviewed for CCTV.

Being interviewed for CCTV.

The gallery show opening Monday was terrific, there was a great turn out, and Art City Cambridge (www.facebook.com/artcitycambridge) is doing great work for the local community getting local emerging artists recognized. Located in the Cambridge City Hall Annex building, the Cambridge Arts Council offices and Gallery 344 are perfectly placed to get a lot of traffic from locals and is a great opportunity for local artists to show their work to the community.

I was also interviewed by the local television station CCTV check out the video here: www.cctvcambridge.org/mire/artcity. My interview will be up later.

Again, the show is August 18th through September 8th. Stop by the Cambridge City Hall Annex Building, 2nd floor, 344 Broadway St. Cambridge, MA open 8:30 am to 5 pm.

Best Friends

Hello everyone, as this is my first blog post I wanted to introduce myself, but I also want to introduce my best friend, my dog Behr! He's more than just my friend though he's also an inspiration, my work often features animals and has even featured him. This piece is an old school assignment but a favorite of mine. My teacher gave us the challenge of displaying the subtle changes in color through transparency and the timing was perfect, Behr gets chronic ear infections and I had just taken him to the vet for medicine and he had to wear a cone. It fit the challenge perfectly so I took a photo of Behr and worked from it.

At first I wasn't to sure how to make the plastic shine of the cone without it looking flat. All I assumed was I could use some very translucent white paint, water it down maybe? Then my professor introduced me to interference paint! It a clear gloss with a tint of color to let the image below be seen but give it a different color affect. So I bought a few colors blended them in and it gave the depth of the cone I was looking for. The effect created the resemblance to plastic I was trying to achieve.
