Behr and I, best friends and twins for life!
This is a painting I did of Behr for my advanced painting class in college.
Hello everyone, as this is my first blog post I wanted to introduce myself, but I also want to introduce my best friend, my dog Behr! He's more than just my friend though he's also an inspiration, my work often features animals and has even featured him. This piece is an old school assignment but a favorite of mine. My teacher gave us the challenge of displaying the subtle changes in color through transparency and the timing was perfect, Behr gets chronic ear infections and I had just taken him to the vet for medicine and he had to wear a cone. It fit the challenge perfectly so I took a photo of Behr and worked from it.
At first I wasn't to sure how to make the plastic shine of the cone without it looking flat. All I assumed was I could use some very translucent white paint, water it down maybe? Then my professor introduced me to interference paint! It a clear gloss with a tint of color to let the image below be seen but give it a different color affect. So I bought a few colors blended them in and it gave the depth of the cone I was looking for. The effect created the resemblance to plastic I was trying to achieve.
